DM Plastics & Steel

Project: Mod-Cod – Ambrosia Mine

DM Plastics & Steel were awarded the major supply and delivery contract for the Mod‑Cod project at Iluka Resources’ Jacinth‑Ambrosia mineral sands operation in Yellabinna. Scope comprised 11 km of DN450, DN500 and DN560 Metric Co‑Ex (Lo‑Heat) polyethylene pipe in SDR13.6 PN12.5, supplied in 20 m straight lengths and delivered over 26 extendable trailers. DMP&S managed end‑to‑end logistics to a remote operational site, coordinating staged deliveries, site access and unloading to align with installation sequencing and site safety requirements. All products were supplied on time and in full (OTIF) and the project was completed with zero incidents recorded.

Jacinth‑Ambrosia is Iluka’s flagship heavy mineral sands operation in the Yellabinna region, producing zircon, rutile and ilmenite for domestic and international markets. The operation includes extensive processing facilities and sophisticated tailings management systems and is recognised for its role in supplying critical mineral sands feedstocks to downstream industries. The Mod‑Cod pipeline supply supported Iluka’s single‑stream tailings and tailings‑handling initiatives at Jacinth‑Ambrosia, providing robust, corrosion‑resistant HDPE pipework sized for primary tailings conveyance and process water management.

The pipe enabled upgrades to tailings conveyance and handling systems that contribute to improved operational efficiency, enhanced water recovery and long‑term management of tailings streams—outcomes that align with Iluka’s broader focus on operational performance and environmental stewardship at the site. Delivering this package to a remote mine environment required detailed logistics planning, tight coordination with site crews and adherence to strict safety and quality protocols to ensure materials matched installation sequencing and site requirements.

Project delivery demonstrated DMP&S’s capability to execute large‑volume, multi‑diameter HDPE programs in demanding environments. From production scheduling and freight coordination to staged onsite deliveries and safe unloading, our Major Projects team managed all aspects of supply, documentation and site integration. Product certificates for every load were provided, with DMP&S managing all testing in‑house to ensure traceability, conformity and timely handover to the client.
