Project: Evaporation Ponds 7 (Olympic Dam)

DM Plastics & Steel were awarded the major supply contract for the Evaporation Ponds project at BHP’s Olympic Dam operation. The scope comprised the supply and delivery of 20 km of DN315 and DN400 Metric White Co‑Ex (Lo‑Heat) SDR13.6 PN12.5 polyethylene pipe plus a suite of project‑specific sweep bends manufactured to a range of radii to suit the site configuration.

Sweep bends were produced to project specifications by approved fabricators under DMP&S technical oversight to ensure seamless long‑radius profiles, full pressure rating and fit‑for‑purpose geometry. All pipeline components underwent in‑house pressure testing coordinated and executed by DMP&S, with all assemblies successfully passing acceptance criteria prior to mobilisation. Certificates of product conformity, including batch test results, were issued with every trailer load and managed centrally by our Major Projects team.

All materials were delivered to site over 22 trailers. DMP&S managed end‑to‑end supply chain activities including production scheduling, freight coordination, direct deliveries, and close liaison with onsite crews and unloading equipment schedules to align supply with installation sequencing and minimise downtime. Our team coordinated staged unloading and handover of pipe and fittings, demonstrating capability in integrating complex product supply with mining‑scale logistics and site operational requirements.

The Evaporation Pond 7 work forms part of BHP’s broader Olympic Dam operations near Roxby Downs. Project delivery highlighted DMP&S’s ability to deliver large‑volume polyethylene pipe contracts with specialist swept‑bend solutions, comprehensive quality assurance and on‑site logistics management.
